Shelter Pet

You turned away when I looked at you in your cage. Shy, they said. Unfriendly? I worried. Could I love you enough? Your turned-away head said Take me home. Take me home. Take me home.

  1. Oh my! I didn't know what to expect, but it was quite a squeeze of the heart, and actually brought on tears. Beautifully done, Elaine.

    1. Thank you, Jo-Anne. I had a few tears after we brought her home, too, wondering if we'd done the right thing. But now I'm so glad we did!

  8. I love this! I'm so glad you heard the 'take me home' in the turned head. We have a rescue dog that a friend fostered and she is the best dog EVER! Breaks my heart that she was scared and locked in a cage.
